I promised my husband that I would not watch American Idol anymore when Simon Cowell left the show and he was happy because he hates those kinds of shows. So imagine my surprise when I came home and found him watching American Idol at the beginning of this season.

He loves his Rock n Roll and had heard that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was going to be a judge and basically just wanted to see how Steven Tyler would fit in. Boy am I ever glad that he decided to  watch this season.

The first audition I saw of Scotty McCreery, I told my husband, "That boy doesn't need Idol. He is going to be a huge country music star." And we all know the rest of that story. Scotty went on to win American Idol with a record number of over 95 million  votes coming in to the show.

And sure enough, Scotty McCreery has made country music history now with his first single, “I Love You This Big,” which has the highest-charting debut for a new artist in more than two decades.

Itunes reported that the song hit No. 1. It has reached No. 3 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. Way to go Scotty and to my husband I get to say, "I told you so!"

Here are a couple of upcoming chances to catch Scotty performing:

He will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on Friday, June 10.

He will perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on June 15.

Of course, he will be featured on the American Idols Live tour that begins July 6 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and runs through September.

He will perform on ABC’s Good Morning America on Aug. 12.
