If you live in the 318, you know that Fertitta’s Deli is more than just a restaurant; it’s a time capsule. Operating at 1124 Fairfield Ave since 1927, it holds the title of Shreveport’s oldest continuously running family-owned eatery.

Walking in feels like a warm hug from Agatha Fertitta herself. While I was "chit-chatting" with her recently, I learned the hilarious truth behind their world-famous "Muffy." When Agatha’s parents were originally ordering that iconic sign for the roof, they realized "Muffuletta" was way too expensive to spell out. They shortened it to "Muffy" to save a few bucks, trademarked it, and the rest is delicious history!

But the real "movie magic" happened recently. About 30 years ago, the building was struck by lightning, knocking out the bright neon sign that had guided hungry locals for decades. It stayed dark for thirty years, until Hollywood came knocking.

The production team for The Blind, the biographical drama following the early, gritty life of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson, chose Fertitta’s for their opening scene. They needed the restaurant for a night shoot, but there was one problem: no neon.

In a move that defined "Southern Hospitality," the film crew brought in a specialist team from Baton Rouge to fully restore the neon lights in exchange for using the space.

Today, thanks to a movie about redemption and faith, the beauty of this historical landmark is finally shining bright once again.

If you want a taste of history (and that trademarked Muffy!), remember they’re only open Wednesday through Friday, 10:30 AM to 1:45 PM. Trust me, it’s worth the wait!
