Haz-Mat Spill on I-49 in Shreveport Causes Big Delays
I-49 had to be shut down for hours on Monday after a haz-mat spill near the Hollywood Pierremont exit. It happened in the northbound lanes at about 5pm during the afternoon rush hour.
Shreveport firefighters were called to the scene along with Shreveport police officers. A vehicle carrying some corrosive materials lost part of its load which spilled onto the freeway.
Shreveport Fire Department HAZ-Mat units along with the Shreveport Police Department and Louisiana State Police were notified and assisted in managing the incident and ensuring the safety of the public. No one was hurt during the incident.
I-49 North bound between Hollywood Pierremont and Kings Hwy was closed for several hours while the spill was cleaned up.
Motorists were advised to use Line Avenue or Linwood to get around the mess.
