Going Red For Women in the Ark-La-Tex
The first time I ever went to a Go Red For Women Luncheon I had no idea what to expect. I just new I needed to wear something nice and a whole lot of red. Little did I know that I was walking into one of the most inspiring luncheons of my life. I learned a lot that day, some information I simply didn't want to hear. We hate those scary statistics right? I found out that Cardiovascular disease kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds in the U.S. but in all that I walked out with hope. Step one, take actions to prevent it. Step two, know the symptoms, and step three walk out of that luncheon ready to take on the world.
So many wonderful women in our community gather to celebrate each other, have a delicious lunch and listen to the magnificent Donna Hartley. The woman is a warrior. She survived a fiery DC-10 plane crash. She was diagnosed with Stage III Melanoma but triumphed and beat it and is now cancer free. Donna Hartley also came out a champion after her open heart surgery and is now an advocate for women and heart disease. Get a group together or come by yourself to listen to her unique and inspiring story you won't regret it!
The Go Red For Women Luncheon is on Valentine's Day February 14th and it will be at the Shreveport Convention Center. For information on tickets, sponsorship, or volunteer opportunities contact Laura Landman at the American Heart Association at (318)218-1376 or visit the website here.
