Gary’s Picks For North Louisiana High School Football This Week

Another big week of High School football games. Thursday night Huntington takes on Green Oaks at Independence Stadium and in a recent move from Friday to Thursday night Captain Shreve will be on the road at Natchitoches Central.

My guess its that this could be a very tough game for Shreve. QB Trey Rogers sat out last weeks game with a concussion. Natchitoches Central is 2-1 on the year. Their only loss is to Calvary. Last week, the Chiefs pummelled Benton 52-6. They are averaging 35 points/game. So expect to see lots of offensive action. Shreve is also 2-1 on the year, with wins over Huntington and Green Oaks. Their only loss was to Ouachita.

BTW hosts Red River....I think BTW might have a chance to win this one. They have posted wins already this year over in town rival Fair Park and Homer.

North Caddo is at home to take on Merryville. North Caddo wins this one to put Merryville at 1-3 on the year.

Evangel is on the road at St. Thomas Moore

Evangel is back on the winning track, having beaten Barbe on the road last week, 31-16. Their 1st two games of the year were matchups with out-of-state powerhouses. And this won't be a cakewalk. The Cougars are 3-0 on the year and could make this a contest with the Eagles.

Calvary stays home to play Teurlings Catholic. Calvary took a 69-48 beating at the hands of Carencro last week, and I am guessing Coach John Bachman has lit a fire under his guys to get them ready for this game. This should be no contest, but the Rebels had no trouble trouncing Alexandria 2 weeks ago.

Southwood and Northwood battle at Lee Hedges. Northwood is undefeated on the year, and I don't think that will change.

Haughton is hosting West Ouachita

The Bucs are 3-0 but really have yet to be tested this season and in all likelihood this won't be much of a test either. The Chiefs are 1-2 on the year and shouldn't be too big a hurdle for the powerful Haughton squad. The Bucs defense is stepping up this year, allowing only 23 points in 3 games, while the offense is averaging 37 points per game.

North Desoto visits Benton. I'm taking North Desoto in this one.

Parkway stays home to tackle Minden

This should be an easy win for Parkway. The Panthers will have little or no trouble starting off the year, 4-0. The powerhouse offense should roll up the points against Minden.

Loyola is on the road at University Lab. As much as I don't want to, I have to take U-High in this one. They are 3-0 on the year and have put more than 70 points on the board in 3 games. The Flyer defense better show up to play.

North Webster visits Bossier. The Bearkats win this one.

Byrd is at Ruston. The Yellow Jackets will continue their winning streak.

Farmerville plays Fair Park at Independence Stadium. Farmerville takes this game.

Airline stays home to take on Woodlawn. Should be no trouble for Airline.
