What Happened To The Bill Making Daylight Saving Time Permanent
While many Americans felt the practice of the semiannual routine of clock changes were a thing of the past, they were obviously uniformed, and would appear are in for, at least, one or two more changes.

You might recall that after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Sunshine Protection Act on July 14, 2026, many felt the "clock changing" practice would end and daylight saving time would be made permanent.
Though The House Passed The Sunshine Act, It Was Far From Law At This Point
Many had obviously gotten the wagon ahead of the mule and hadn't considered that while the House had passed the bill, it was still necessary to be passed by the U.S. Senate before President Trump could sign it into law.

In an article from delawareonline.com, we learn that while interest on this issue has risen over the last few days, as of now, there is currently no scheduled Senate vote on the matter.
Not only is there no vote from the Senate, usatoday.com reports, it's not even on the schedule, and though "Trump has urged senators to act.....the bill's future remains uncertain."
President Trump Has Urged The Senate To Pass The Act and "Finally, Get It Done"

In President Trump's recent message urging the Senate to approve the measure "as soon as possible," he stated, "More sun later in the day is better" and called on lawmakers to "Finally, get it done!!"
But, with the matter not on the current agenda, it would appear a lost cause as the window to address the change continues to close before this fall's scheduled time change back to Standard Time at 2:00 am on Sunday, November 1.
In an AP-NORC poll conducted in late 2025, it was determined that 56% of adults prefer making daylight saving time permanent. However, other polls suggest that making Standard time permanent would be the better idea, but in no survey that we found, was the idea of continuing the clock changes the preferred method.
Yet, here we are. Our tax dollars at work! So, looks like we're in for at least one more battle resetting the time in our vehicles and on the microwaves.
