Even though it would appear that the majority of Louisiana is unhappy about it, we will soon be forced to make that semi-annual clock change for the start of Daylight Saving Time.

The official date for the start of Daylight Saving Time 2025 is Sunday, March 9. At 2:00 am that morning, those clocks will magically jump forward to 3:00 am and just like that, we will lose an hour of sleep.

It's a move that Louisiana and the rest of the country would appear are sick of making. In a poll conducted in 2023 by YouGov, we see that 59% of Americans would like for Daylight Saving Time to stay permanent.

Essentially, those people polled would prefer if America would make this newest clock adjustment final.

Instead of adjust our clocks again on Sunday, November 2, 2025, nearly sixty percent of Americans would like to jump forward on March 9, and then never adjust those clocks again.

A story from nbcsandiego.com highlights the health issues with the dreaded time change:

A study published in Cell Press in 2020 found that springing forward each year increases the risk of fatal traffic accidents by 6%. The University of Michigan found a 24% increase in the number of heart attacks that occurred on the Monday just after the time switch, compared to other Mondays.

So, for those anxious to end this practice, there's some real promise in a story at thehill.com, as the practice of changing clocks could be in it's final days:

In December, Trump threw his support behind eliminating the “inconvenient” and “costly” practice as the leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) called to abolish daylight saving time.

Where Is Louisiana On Abolishing These Time Changes?

We do know that Louisiana did get proactive with the possibility and passed a bill that would make it legal to stop the time changes on a state level if the legislation passed on a Federal level.

We also learned that as late as last month, in January of 2025, Representative Celeste Maloy introduced a bill, entitled "Daylight Act", which would give all states the necessary power to observe daylight saving time year-round, however that bill, and any of the other newly introduced bills on the matter, have all been referred to committees.

So, maybe, just maybe, this is our last time on this never ending merry-go-round and this antiquated practice is in its final days.  Guess we'll just have to wait and find out.
