So you're company Christmas party is this weekend?  Wondering how to dress or how to act?  Can you let your hair down and have fun or should you just avoid the whole thing?  According to QuintCareers:

  • Don't pass up the invitation to an office party; not attending could hurt your reputation. And when you attend, do spend at least 30 minutes at the party for appearances.
  • Do remember that although office parties are intended as social events to reward employees and raise morale, they remain strictly business events. Do act as though your behavior is being observed every minute (because it probably is).

They also suggest several other "common sense" things like "enjoy yourself" but don't do "crazy things" like you'd do at the Superbowl Party at your house. Do keep your hands to yourself; don't flirt.  And DON'T spend all evening talking business.

Couple other things that I've witnessed over the years at some of our radio station Christmas parties that you might want to avoid.  Wrapping the intern in bubble wrap and throwing him in the hotel swimming pool is NOT the best idea; it's REALLY funny, but not a good career move.  When you "think" you can drink just "one more"....you're wrong.  In fact, it's probably already too late!  Oh and the most important thing to remember is that your office party is NOT Las Vegas!!!  EVERYTHING that happens there will be EVERYWHERE...Facebook, Twitter, hand written post-its stuck to the vending machine in the break room.  I've always said, "Good news travels fast, but a picture of someone's butt taken on the company copy machine at the Christmas Party travels at the speed of fax."
