Census workers will start going door to door in Shreveport Bossier today.

I am sorry to have to admit this, but I have been ignoring those forms I have gotten from the United States Census. They have probably sent me 4 or 5 packets in the mail. I still have them piled up at the house. But I've been procrastinating. Something tells me I am not alone.

It really is important to fill out the census form and be counted. The community you live in gets federal funding based on the population. That is the key factor in determining dollars from the feds. This includes so many things from Community Development Block Grants to highway dollars.

Shreveport's population is already down to 188,000 and most experts agree we will likely see another dramatic decrease in census numbers once the 2020 results are done. So please, take a moment and get it done.

Let me tell you how easy it is. I went online this morning while I was on the air and did it in less than 3 minutes. Seriously, it is quite simple and painless. But it really does matter so much in terms of federal spending.

Click here to get started and make sure you and everyone in your household is counted. Click on the respond button once you are at the census site. If you don't want census takers to come to your home, you should get this done as soon as possible. It they do come to your home, the workers will wear masks and follow local public health guidelines.

Between now and September 3rd, census takers will work with administrators at colleges, senior centers, prisons, and other facilities that house large groups of people to make sure everyone is counted.

In December, the Census Bureau will deliver apportionment counts to the President and Congress as required by law.
