Each year the flu season sickens many both young and old.  Last year, was especially grueling.  Many area schools in the Ark-La-Tex had to close because of an outbreak of the flu among students.

The Caddo Parish School Board is hoping to prevent that from happening again this year.  Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives for the Caddo Parish School Board, Mary Nash- Wood, announced that Caddo schools have teamed up with CareDox.  CareDox provides free in-school vaccinations for students.  Starting this fall, Caddo Parish students will be able to receive the flu vaccine at their school.

Superintendent of Caddo Schools, Dr. T. Lamar Goree further explained the partnership, "Our work with CareDox allows students access to trusted healthcare providers right on their campus with no question of cost or ability to receive the vaccine. This partnership will allow our teachers to focus on quality instruction and our students to remain healthy and in the classroom.”

Students are not required to receive the flu shot, but it will be available for any student who would like to get it. Parents of Caddo Parish Students will be receiving more information about CareDox soon as well as how they can get the flu shot for their kids.

I have always heard people being split on the flu shot like many other vaccines. By no means am I an expert on the pros and cons of the vaccine, but I am a fan.  I have gotten a flu shot every year for as long as I can remember.
