Caddo Parish Man Jailed for Leaving Wife on Couch For Months

Caddo District Judge John D. Mosely Jr. sentenced Johnny Wayne Essary to 16 months in jail after the 67 year old plead guilty to a "cruelty to the infirmed charge."  That charge woefully understates the sheer inhuman treatment Mr. Essary was convicted on.

When medical personnel found 68-year-old Alice Essary (Johnny's wife), KSLA reports that she was "unresponsive, severely malnourished, at least 50 pounds underweight and suffered from life-threatening wounds and medical issues."  A detective from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office described the scene as “the worst case of neglect I’ve ever seen.”  According to the report, when Johnny was arrested in June of 2018 - Alice had been sitting in the same spot on the couch for months and it had been at least a solid month since anyone had even checked on her.  According to authorities, Alice's husband lived in the house but never tried to get her medical help or assistance of any kind.

Alice's daughter alerted 911 after a visit to check on her mother revealed the dire circumstances.  No word on Alice Essary current condition.
