We received word about this in a press release from the Bossier Parish School Board.

More than 13,000 archers participated in the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) Championship, held May 12-14 in Louisville, Kentucky.  Benton Elementary won the Elementary 3D title and Benton Middle claimed the Middle School Bullseye title. Benton Elementary also placed fifth in Elementary Bullseye and Kingston Elementary, in its inaugural year, placed sixth out of 156 teams.

In the 3D competition, Benton Middle placed an impressive 8th out of 114 teams and Kingston Elementary, 8th out of 66.

Haughton Middle was also recognized for a prestigious honor; the On Target for Life Award. The OTFLA program recognizes powerful examples of how

in-school archery has positively impacted the lives of students and adults. HMS was one of three national finalists for the Community Service Award, which recognizes outstanding service to a community by a NASP team or class.

Two fourth grade students were also singled out as being among the top archers in the nation. Madeline Lowry, from Benton Elementary, is now ranked number two in the nation for Elementary Girls 3D, and Eden Old, also a student at Benton Elementary, is ranked third in the U.S.

Teams now have their sights set on the NASP World Tournament, which will be held June 24-26 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is a trip reigning World Champions Benton Elementary and Middle School archery teams plan to make to defend their titles as the best across the globe.
