We must keep telling ourselves, "One day when this construction is over, I-20 in Bossier will be better than ever."

But, until that day comes when construction is complete in late 2025, there are plenty of wrinkles causing some major traffic headaches that we must continue to endure.

Another of those headaches will begin this coming Monday night, December 9, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just advised all motorists I-20 eastbound will be closed between the Old Minden Road (LA 72) and Airline Drive (LA 3105) interchanges in Bossier City.

This nighttime closure, which will take place from approximately 8:00 pm to 6:00 am over the course of five nights, is necessary to allow the contractor for the ongoing I-20 major rehabilitation project to continue to prepare the concrete barriers to shift traffic onto the remaining new travel lanes in the eastbound direction between Old Minden Road and Airline Drive.

Eastbound motorists will be able to exit I-20 at either the Benton Road (LA 3 – Exit 20B) or Barksdale Blvd (US 71 – Exit 20C) interchanges. The I-20 eastbound on-ramp from Airline Drive will remain open during this work.

This work will be done weather permitting so any inclement weather could delay, extend or alter the scheduled work days/hours.

A similar process is ongoing for the westbound direction. Once all traffic in both directions is shifted onto the newly constructed travel lanes, the project will be considered fully transitioned into Phase 3 (final phase of construction).

As a reminder, Phase 3 involves removing and fully reconstructing the outside (right) lanes of the interstate from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive in both directions, as well as rebuilding the ramps at Industrial Drive (currently underway), Benton Road, Barksdale Blvd, and Airline Dr.
