Rapper Boosie’s Visit to Northside High Sparks Administrative Action
If you have ever been to a party in Louisiana, there is no doubt that Boosie will be played at crazy volumes.
Sorry, we don't make the rules; it’s just part of living in "The Boot." But while Boosie is considered a Louisiana legend by many, and students across the state look up to him, a local school district clearly thinks otherwise.
The Acadiana Advocate reports that Northside High School Principal James Rollins has been placed on administrative leave following a surprise visit from the rapper earlier this week.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, arrived at the school alongside State Representative Tehmi Chassion.
A Violation of Policy
The visit reportedly happened without any prior district approval, which stands as a direct violation of Lafayette Parish School System policy. While the school system has not explicitly confirmed that the principal's leave is a direct result of the rapper’s appearance, the timing is hard to ignore. Boosie was in the city to promote an upcoming music event at the Cajundome and met with several other local officials during his stay.
A Complicated Legacy
The controversy follows a heavy start to the year for the artist. In January 2026, Boosie Badazz was sentenced in federal court to time served for a 2023 gun charge, narrowly avoiding additional prison time. However, his freedom comes with strict conditions: he is currently serving three years of supervised release, must complete 300 hours of community service, and was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
It seems that while his music remains a staple of Louisiana culture, his presence in local schools is a much more complicated issue for administrators.
