Billy Currington is doubling down on his top slot in the Billboard Country Airplay chart this week, marking his second week at No. 1 with “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To.” The song is only one of six country tunes to have a multi-week No. 1 so far this year.

The song is one of several of Currington’s hits to hold the No. 1 spot for more than one consecutive week, with “Must Be Doing Something Right” and “People Are Crazy” snagging the slot two weeks in a row, and “Good Directions” staying for three weeks.

“It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To” is the only track Currington penned himself from his 2015 record Summer Forever, so perhaps its the honesty shining through that draws listeners in.

“I may or may have not knew someone from Alabama, back in the past,” Currington tells Taste of Country, laughing as he referenced the “Alabama dirt” line in the song.

He says he’s had a few painful breakups in the past that have left him shaken, but perhaps they have served a better purpose. “They don’t feel good and you definitely still hurt inside,” the singer says. “Maybe that’s where those songs come from.”

Currington is currently finishing up his headlining Summer Forever Tour.
