The first time Benton Middle School claimed the World Champion Archery title, some could have possibly labeled it a fluke, but with this week's back-to-back repeat of that feat, it's now a known fact!

Benton Middle School is an archery force to contend with as they are once again the World Champion Archery team!  And not in just one division, World Champions in both divisions; bullseye and 3D competition.

The Tigers traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the 2016 National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) World Tournament, where they faced off against the best archers across the globe.  However, the team remained undaunted and forged ahead with 4 of their archers placing in the Top 5 of their respective divisions.

In a press release from the Bossier Parish School Board, we learn:

Named "Best in the World" was Benton's Emma Bunch, who earned the number one spot after shooting a 291 out of 300, followed by Kaitlyn Misenheimer’s 289 to garner a third place finish. Aidan Haire placed third in the male division with a score of 289.  In the bullseye competition, Abbie Rutledge came in fourth in the world with a score of 291.

Benton Middle coaches Jessica Benoit and Terrie Streetman said, “It’s truly been a great season for all of our kids. Their hard work has really paid off with multiple team championship wins, including the Louisiana State title in both divisions, a National title in bullseye and the World title in both divisions. What a great year for our kids, our parents, our school and our community. The BEST in the world!”

Haughton Middle’s team also brought its ‘A’ game to the competition, placing 24th in the bullseye.

At the elementary level, the Benton Elementary Tigers took the second place world ranking in both the bullseye and 3D competitions. Kingston Elementary, in its inaugural year, was also right on target, placing third in 3D and fourth in bullseye. Kingston’s Kennedy Halsell did extremely well for her team, placing fourth in the world among all female elementary archers.
