Anna Welch Is Latest Recipient of Caught in the Act Award

Teachers are already some awesome people, but when we learn of one dawning a red cape and making life incredible for those around her, we know this "super human" needs to be recognized as Kiss Country's Caught in the Act Award recipient.

And that's the case with Anna Welch. We learned of Anna's love for her students and community from one of her students, Hailee Rivers. In fact, Hailee knows Anna both as a teacher and about how awesome she is in her personal life. And it's a story we loved reading! (By the way, Hailee, you're an incredible writer!)

I’m a student at Parkway High School and I would like to nominate a very special person for this award. Anna Welch is a 10th grade math teacher at Parkway. She is a young, single mother (well, technically not single anymore since she recently started dating my awesome Uncle). I know Anna professionally from school and also now have had he privilege to know her personally. Since meeting Anna, I have been in awe of her resilience and strength. Within the last year her household has drastically changed. Not only does Anna care for her young son, but she has also taken sole responsibility for her teenage niece. She works as a teacher, but also works a second job as a waitress in the evenings to make ends meet and to ensure her son and niece can still be involved in the things in life that make them happy. The stress and the struggle is real and sometimes can be overwhelming, but she manages and does it all with a smile on her face. Unfortunately, sometimes that requires her own personal needs and wants to be neglected. Her love for her school, students and family is evident in everything she does. She would give the shirt off her back for anyone and not ask for anything in return. Anna is an excellent teacher, mother, and all around human being who gives 100% of herself so selflessly to not only her children, but to the students of Parkway High School. And for this reason, Anna should be chosen to be this week’s Caught in the Act Award recipient.

Anna Welch, thank you for being an inspiration to us all and a big reason why this is the greatest place in America to live!
