This is an incredibly sad story developing in Fayette County, Alabama. Fayette County only allows their animal shelter to hold animals up to 14 days which many of the animals have been there much longer and with overcrowding the shelter is being forced to lay down most of their dogs.

So the shelter director has taken to social media asking for everyone looking to get a dog for Christmas to please adopt from a shelter. So far the community has come out in large numbers to adopt the dogs but still many left and with Christmas approaching workers are getting nervous.

KSLA reports "I want them to get the chance that they deserve," Shelter Director Misti Bellar said. "They did not ask to spend their holiday unwanted, without love and without a family."

Workers are doing everything they can to help the animals "It really does, I'm trying not to cry right now," Bellar said. "Day in and day out, eight or more hours a day, I care and love for these animals. Somebody threw them away and said they were garbage."
