Alton Jones, Jr. Wins Bassmaster Central Open on Red River
What a difference a week makes! Last week, according to Alton Jones, Jr. was "gut wrenching" as he competed in the Bassmaster Northern Open on Lake Champlain and fell just one point short of qualifying for the Bassmaster Elite Series and compete along side his father, Alton Jones, Sr.
However, this week proved to be one of the best weeks of his life. After Jones made a 27 hour drive from Lake Champlain all the way to Bossier City, La. and the Red River, Jones is nothing but smiles as he walked off the stage with the first place trophy in the Bassmaster Central Open and an automatic berth in the Bassmaster Classic.
In a tournament that featured extremely few 5 fish limits for all three days of competition, the 24 year old Jones proved that perseverance and hard work can make you a winner!
His winning weight of 35-14 was nearly a full four pounds over his nearest competitor, Todd Murray. who finished second with 32-2. And our own, Mike Pedroza of Sibley, La. gave the big boys a run for their money as he finished third with a weight of 30-15.
In the co-angler division, the newly crowned champion was Marvin Delong of Colfax, Louisiana with a weight of 20-5. The second place co-angler was Charlie Hewitt with 17-1.
