On Friday, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission started accepting applications from individuals and organizations that wish to obtain one of 32 licenses to operate a marijuana dispensaries in the state.  The statewide ability for residents to legally purchase medically prescribed cannabis is expected to roll out sometime early next year.  As in cases we have seen across the United States, this is causing quite a bit of concern and confusion at the border between states that do allow their citizens to partake and those that don't.  And when it comes to the border between Arkansas and Texas, the situation gets quite a bit stickier.

In one crucial city, the definition of pot goes from legally prescribed medicine to street drugs that will send you to jail depending upon what side of the road you are on. Half of TexArkana is in Texas (not pot friendly), and the other half is in Arkansas (medical pot friendly).

ArkansasOnline talked with spokesman for the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department Shawn Vaughn, who said officers there will not recognize Arkansas Health Department-issued cards for prescribed marijuana.

From our perspective, it's still illegal in any shape, form or fashion in Texas.  Anybody who has marijuana, medical or otherwise, in their possession ... would be subject to arrest in Texas."

Under the new guidelines, Arkansas residents with the appropriate card and prescription would be able to legally buy up to 2 and 1/2 ounces every 14 days.  Being arrested with that amount in Texas would net you up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $4,000.
