My grandmother was a country cook, everything tasted sooooo good and most of the ingredients were cataloged in her mind. It took my mom years to recreate the ingredients of my grandmothers chicken and dressing. This recipe makes a TON of dressing, but it freezes very well (freeze it unbaked).

It's celebration time in Minden! The Fasching  Fifth Season Festival celebrates all things German.  The party started today and continues tomorrow with thousands of Christmas lights, a fireworks display, ice skating, German food, entertainment, arts and crafts. And yes, since its a German celebration, beer.

Well, we are in the home stretch of this pregnancy journey. Thanks to my handy dandy iPhone app I can keep up with it to the day (because Lord knows my short term memory flew the coup a couple months ago). I have 6 weeks and 4 days until Christmas Eve, my due date.

Start scratching down your back to school lists our state tax free weekend is coming up August 5th and 6th. Local taxes will still apply, but you can load up on clothes, uniforms, educational equipment and school supplies during the two day 4% state tax hiatus.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue, with a law passed by the state legislature has adopted this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) as tax-free for most hurricane and storm preparidness items.  Local municipalities and parishes, at least none in our part of the state are as gracious and willing to give up their portion of that 8+% sales tax we pay, though.
