LADOTD Public Meeting Could Affect Residents of Country Place, Tall Timbers and Forest Hills

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) will host a public information meeting to discuss proposed corridor improvements along U.S. 79/80 in Haughton. The meeting will be Tuesday, June 18, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Eastwood Baptist Church, 2810 U.S. 80 in Haughton.

I just witnessed one of the finest musicals I think I ever saw. And believe it or not, not one of the characters was older than 12. Fourth and 5th graders from Princeton Elementary performed "Once On a Housetop - An International Holiday Celebration."

There were chimney sweeps, cheerleaders, wise men, angels, and lots of incredible singers. We celebrated Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. As the kids sang Silent Night, cheerleaders held signs with the names and ages of every victim of Sandy Hook. And we cried. We cried hard.

Trick or Treating just doesn't happen at the McCoy house. We live so far back in the woods that the sun sets between our house and town, so trick or treating would consist of a trip across the road to Neighbor James' house and next door to my in-laws; then it would be over. The oldest "McCoy Boy", Buddy, graduated from Haughton last year and the other 2 McCoy boys are still in the Haughton school system, so we've got a little equity in it and our opinion might be a little jaded, but no one can dispute the success that Coach Hal Harlan has enjoyed with what is now 4 straight years of undefeated district play.

Water Rationing By Village Water System in Haughton And Princeton Area

Got a letter last night from the Village Water System that serves the Haughton and Princeton areas and just like several other water systems they are asking customers to reduce water consumption. Citing www.drought.gov they state that we are in the US Drought Portal and they request immediate reduction in water usage or we could be in danger of having water shut off to customers/members. According to Ken Bardett, President of Village Water, "The current usage is unsustainable; your cooperation will determine whether you will have water for regular household usage."

Haughton, Benton, Parkway Advance In Playoffs

I’m not much of a sports writer, but I pay close attention to the real pros, Jerry Byrd and Russell Hedges of the Bossier Press Tribune and Jason Pugh at the Shreveport Times, so here’s my first attempt to recap all the action yesterday as the Louisiana Class 4A State Baseball playoffs began. It became really obvious to everyone at all 3 parks that Bossier Parish came to play with all 3 teams advancing to the next round. Haughton beat Minden 10-5, Benton won over Northwood 11-1 and it was Parkway over Beau Chene 10-3. The way the LHSAA seeds teams for the play-offs will insure that at least one of our 3 local teams will advance to the quarter finals, but no more than 2. Haughton will play host to Parkway this coming Tuesday at 6pm and the winner of that game will make the quarter finals. Either Monday or Tuesday, Benton will face Ruston and that winner will also advance.
