After two days of competition on Red River some of our local boys are really giving the pros a run for their money.  Sitting atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of today’s weigh in is Mike Pedroza of Sibley with 10 fish weighing a total of 29-2.

In an interview with Bassmaster, Pedroza stated  “It was a grind for us. With the cloudy conditions it puts the bite off on the Red River.  I caught a couple of big fish early and just kept grinding it out in fishing that same area.”

“When the sun popped out at about 2 o’clock I moved to another location—a duck blind—and caught two off of that to complete my limit. I came back there at about 4 o’clock and caught my biggest fish (a 5- pounder).”

“That last fish was just a gift. I was just kind of bumping the duck blind and turned around to talk to my partner,” he said. “When I looked back my line was just moving out so I set the hook and I was just hanging on then.” After landing the fish he noticed his hook was bent out.

Second place after today’s competition belongs to Illinois pro Chad Morgenthaler with 10 fish weighing 27-1.  In third place is Randall Tharp of Alabama 26-15; Justin Lucas of Alabama, fourth, 26-8; and another local from Blanchard, Louisiana, Pete Daniels is fifth with 25-13.

Ernest Smoak of Keatchie, Louisiana continues to lead the non-boater division with 17-7.  He was the yesterday’s leader with 9-9 and followed that up with 7-14 today.

Another local cashing in on this event is David Sherrer of Elm Grove, Louisiana who caught the biggest bass of the day and subsequently the biggest bass of the tournament thus far with a lunker weighing 8-1.

Only the top 12 finishers after today’s competition will compete in tomorrow’s final competition which includes the 5 from above and the following: Craig Schuff, Roy Sanford, Wesley Strader, Roger Richter, Michael Iaconelli, Ken Iyobe and Stephen Browning.

The final’s day launch will be at 6:30am at Red River South and the public is invited for viewing this and the final weigh in at 3:30pm at Bass Pro Shops in Bossier City.
