The Caddo Parish Grand Jury will meet today to decide whether or not a Shreveport Police officer was justified during a shooting that happened earlier this year. Cpl. Jon Briceno shot suspect Brian Poole 3 times in the back and once in the leg following a low speed chase near Querbes golf course.

According to police, after the officers stopped Poole's vehicle, Poole ignored directions from the officers and reached into a Duffle bag in the back of his truck. Poole did not have a gun in his possession at the time of the shooting.

Poole's attorney Daryl Gold told KTBS that the officer overreacted and almost killed his client. However, Gold did admit that Poole was under the influence of several drugs at the time of the incident.

Briceno, however, does have a history of using excessive force during his tenure with SPD. The six-year veteran has received  five complaints of excessive force. Two complaints of excessive force were sustained.

Poole on the other hand also has a long history of misdoing. Over the past 20 years, he has been arrested, charged and convicted for battery, purse snatching, negligent injury and domestic abuse battery. Poole was released from prison just three weeks before he was shot.
