Infidelity has always been a driving force behind divorce, but with advancements in technology, the opportunity and the temptation to cheat has become even stronger. Now, it looks like Facebook may be implicated in a lot of that. According to a study at Loyola University Health System, Facebook has been cited in 1 out of every 5 divorces in the United States. And 81% of divorce attorneys say they have seen an increase in the use of social networking evidence in divorce trials. A survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers showed a huge jump in divorce cases citing social networking sites, with Facebook at the top at 65%, followed by MySpace at 14% and Twitter at 5%. The sites weren’t only used to show evidence of infidelity but also used in custody cases, where spouses could point out pictures of drug and alcohol use by their husband/wife.
