I ask the question because phone scammers must be making a killing off of residents of Northwest Louisiana or they would just give up and move their operations elsewhere.

Once again, we get a warning from detectives with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department to Bossier Parish residents about another round of phone scams that have recently been circulating in the parish.

In this latest attempt for these scumbags to free us of our hard-earned dollars, detectives say the caller will usually use the phone number (318) 501-7685 and will identify himself as “Emanuel Montgomery” or “Sgt. Michael Booker” with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office.

When their calls are answered, the caller tells the recipient that they have a criminal warrant for missing a court date and must pay a fine.

Detectives say one way for residents not to fall victim to this scam is to know that it is not the Bossier Sheriff's Office policy to contact someone by phone demanding payment for a fine or soliciting money.

If you feel you have fallen victim to this scam, please call the Bossier Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-3418 or (318) 965-2203.
