Baby Names

Ok, so somehow I’ve made it this far without procreating. I know that sounds kind of bad. I mean, it’s not like I’ve dodged a bullet or like had multiple opportunities… it just hasn’t happened. lol But that’s kinda a big deal when you’re my age. In fact, the clock is ticking pretty loudly!

I never was one of those girls who picked out baby names. But every time I settle on one, someone beats me to it. My mom gave me an unusual name. It’s so unusual that no one says it right, which is why I go by Ally because it irrationally irritates me when it’s said incorrectly. And I can’t think of a time in my life where I thought of naming my kid something common.

In the early 90′s it was Abby or Emma. Names that are common now and oddly enough are the names of my boyfriend’s children. Erie.

Then there was Dakota. I told a distant relative that and that was the name of their kid within a year. Seriously?!

Then it was Atticus. That was a name I picked recently because I LOVE “To Kill a Mockingbird.” And today, I find out someone I really don’t care for, chose that one too.

There are a few names that just give me bad tastes in my mouth. Usually they are names of kids I grew up with and didn’t like, like Danielle, for example. That reminds me, I had a friend who was a teacher who said she would have no idea what to name her kid because there was SO many names she couldn’t stand anymore. She ended up making up a hybrid name.

I have a name chosen now. And I’m pretty sure a country celebrity recently used it, but whatever, I’m not telling a soul. Not that I would even have a chance use it. lol
