As a kid in science class, the only thing I ever managed was to set Karen Pipes' hair on fire. And odds are that even if you were smart enough to put together a really cool science fair project, it couldn't have possibly saved the United States Government $370 million dollars, but that's exactly what a 14 year old kid in Pittsburgh just did.

His name is Suvir Mirchandani and in his project he found out that printer ink can cost almost twice as much as Chanel Number 5: $75 per ounce, compared to $38 for the perfume.

Once Suvir had those calculations, he decided to analyze the different fonts people use to print stuff for his middle school science fair project.

And he calculated that if his school district stopped using Times New Roman, and used a slimmer font like Garamond, it could save them $21,000 a year!

Once he posted his findings, a group of experts examined the data and realized that if the federal government did the same, it would save $136 million a year in taxpayer money.

Plus another $234 million if state governments did it. So, $370 million total.

Wow! Sort of embarrasses you for that baking soda volcano you made for science fair doesn't it?
