UPDATE, June 11, 2016:  New information is released in the death of Miranda Whitton.

The man taken into custody in connection with her death has been released. Following preliminary autopsy results and a review of the case along with the DeSoto District Attorney's Office, the decision was made to release Jarrod Earl Johnson.

The sheriff's office says it's awaiting the final results from the autopsy and at this point, the investigation into Whitton's death is still ongoing.

UPDATE:  The body found earlier today in Logansport has been tentatively identified as that of 21-year-old Miranda Whitton.

Following an investigation into Whitton's last known location, detectives were in the area searching when they located the body partially submerged in a small pond.

A person of interest was identified and brought to the DeSoto Sheriff's Office for questioning. Afterward, Jarrod Johnson of Logansport was booked into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center on one count of second degree murder. The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY:  The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a woman's body found in a small pond in Logansport.

The investigation is being worked as a homicide until the coroner determines a cause of death. This comes as sheriff's deputies search for a missing 21-year-old woman. Miranda Whitton was last seen Monday evening in the Logansport area.

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle says it's too soon to make a connection between the two incidents. We'll have more on this developing story as we get it.
