UPDATE:

A Webster Parish Deputy has died  after being shot by a suspect outside a home on Green Tree Street in Doyline.

William Earl Collins, Jr. was a full-time deputy at the Bayou Dorcheat Correction Center and was serving part-time as a Doyline police officer when he was shot.

The suspect is in custody. But he was taken to an area hospital with life threatening wounds.

Attorney General Jeff Landry issued this statement:

Today, I join my fellow citizens in mourning the tragic death of Webster Parish Deputy and part-time Doyline Police Officer Billy Collins. Our men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day, and last night Officer Collins paid the ultimate price. I thank his family for his faithful service to the community and pray for God’s blessing on them during this difficult time.

A Webster Parish Deputy is in a fight for his life after he was shot in Doyline. The deputy works at the Bayou Dorcheat Correction Center, but he serves as a part-time Doyline police officer. He was shot while working as a Doyline officer.

Police are still on the scene in Doyline where the suspect is barricaded inside a mobile home on Green Tree Street. Two Webster Parish patrol cars were shot up during the incident.

The deputy was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.

State Police are also on the scene trying to take the suspect into custody.
