Residents of Caddo Parish and nearby Shreveport, Louisiana, and the Ark-La-Tex who use this park frequently might be surprised to find it still closed the next time they visit.

Which park in Caddo Parish, Louisiana is closed?

Caddo Parish officials announced today that Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park is now closed until further notice. The closure is due to storm damage and the subsequent power outages our area faced over the last two months. Officials say the damage is extensive and that based on their assessment, 'the facility and nature trails are now closed and will be unable to reopen prior to the beginning of the scheduled construction work to demo the facility and rebuild the upgraded park, which was approved by voters in 2022.' The previously planned work was already planned to begin in early September. Previously, leaders stated that the improvements would take about 18 months to complete. This closure is an official continuation of the closing that took place immediately following the storm damage sustained in June.

What does the future hold for Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park?

Caddo Parish Administrator Erica R. Bryant says, "While we have suffered a loss with the current nature park facility, we continue to move forward with providing a larger, interactive, and modernized facility for the citizens of Caddo Parish." Bryant added, "We are pleased to be able to work with our partners in the community to continue to offer a level of service to those who enjoy our nature park." In short, good things are on the way!
