Here in the Sportsman's Paradise, keeping a current hunting and fishing license is nearly as important as keeping fresh milk in the refrigerator.  And the time has again come to renew your Louisiana Fishing and Hunting licenses.

Your current hunting and fishing licenses will expire on Wednesday, June 30. New licenses go on sale each year on June 1 and since that's today, and there's no time like the present, it might be wise to go ahead and take care of that.

You can get these at most area sporting goods stores, some grocery/convenience stores and even online at If you do decide to shop online for your license, please note there is a slight convenience charge of approximately $2.00.

Course, you might also consider getting the lifetime fishing or hunting license or maybe you want the combo.  That way you never have to think about renewal again.  Those are also available online here at

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, there are certain licenses available at special rates for seniors, military, students and people with disabilities.

Additionally, anglers are not required to have Basic or Saltwater Fishing licenses if they are a resident or nonresident under age 16 OR residents born before June 1, 1940, who has lived in Louisiana for six months.  They do add that:

If you meet one of the above criteria, you must still have proof of age in your possession whenever fishing. In addition, residents born before June 1, 1940, must have appropriate gear licenses when using any legal fishing gear.

Of course, you won't need any type of fishing license when Louisiana observes "Free Fishing Weekend" June 12 and 13 and waives the requirement for any angler, from any state, to have a current license.
