The Most Infected Nursing Home in the State is in Shreveport
When it comes to concentrated pockets of COVID-19 infections, nursing homes are the worst. Unfortunately, when it comes to the most infected nursing homes in the state of Louisiana - Shreveport is the worst.
According to the latest numbers from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), the Highland Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center sits squarely at the top of the highest number of infections in nursing homes or retirement centers. The latest report from the LDH shows that as of Monday Highland Place has had 124 cases of infection, and 17 deaths from COVID-19.
Across the state, the new numbers released on Monday show 15 new deaths, with the number of confirmed cases of infections jumped by 27 - making the new statewide total 34,709. The report also showed that hospitalizations increased to 1,031 after several days of declining.
According to a report from MSN, many of the patients who died also had underlying health conditions. In order from most prevalent to the least, the residents who passed away also suffered from: Hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease, obesity, chronic kidney disease, congestive heart failure, pulmonary disease, neurological conditions, cancer, and asthma.
Experts say that the danger from these nursing homes is to the residents and staff that work there. Because of strict rules put in place as part of the Coronavirus shutdown, the LDH says that these senior centers pose no threat to the general populace.
