If you’re a ride-or-die Popeyes fan here in Shreveport-Bossier, you can take a deep breath and keep that spicy chicken habit going, at least for now.

While headlines about a massive franchisee collapse are swirling, our local spots appear to be out of the splash zone.

One of the nation’s largest Popeyes operators, Sailormen Inc., is officially under pressure, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year. Based in Miami, the group managed 136 locations across Florida and Georgia but has already moved to shutter at least 20 restaurants.

According to reports from KSLA 12, the company is dealing with a familiar, post-pandemic "triple threat": soaring inflation, a dip in customer traffic, and a staggering debt load of roughly $130 million.

This didn't happen overnight. Sailormen has been struggling to stay afloat since 2022, with several failed attempts to sell off chunks of their locations in Georgia and Jacksonville.

Things got messy toward the end of 2025 when vendors started suing over unpaid bills, including a lawn care provider, and BMO Bank eventually sought a federal receiver to take control of the assets.

The good news? Our Shreveport and Bossier City locations aren't under the Sailormen umbrella, so your favorite drive-thru isn't on that immediate "hit list." However, in a city that has seen its fair share of sudden restaurant exits lately, it’s natural to wonder if this is a sign of a larger trend. For now, our local biscuits are safe, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on the national "chicken wars" to see if the local menu stays intact.
