On September 5th, 2016, Shreveport Police Department Patrol officers responded to the 1000 block of Arkansas Avenue on reports of a shooting that had just occurred.

Responding officers located a gold vehicle with numerous bullet holes. The two occupants of the victim’s vehicle advised that a man exited a Tahoe and began firing 20 to 40 rounds at them with a semi-automatic rifle.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units were summoned to the scene. CSIU collected items of evidence and investigators canvassed the neighborhood searching for witnesses and video. The suspect was identified as Anthony Bates (6-20-83). No one was struck by the gunfire.

Investigators were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest for one count of attempted second-degree murder. For multiple years the suspect was able to evade capture however on April 21st, 2023, Bates was taken into custody in the 1800 block of Patzman Street.

Members of the Shreveport Police Warrants Unit, Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Abatement team, and the Shreveport Police City Marshals Office located Bates hiding under a bed inside of a residence. Michelle Jackson (12-13-84) was also arrested for harboring a fugitive.
