Great news for Louisiana on the job front overall isn't exactly great news for Shreveport.

The latest numbers say that this September in the Bayou State, we had more job growth than we did last year - that marks 5 months in a row that Louisiana has earned this achievement.  According to the Advocate, 5 out of 9 Metro areas had such huge gains in employment that they carried the rest of the state to a total of 1,980,700 non-farm jobs over the last year - that's a gain of 14,300 new jobs over the previous 12 months!

Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lake Charles, Hammond, and Monroe all posted job gains - pushing non-farming employment numbers up by 0.7 percent across the board (barely better than half the National average of 1.2 percent).  Unfortunately, Shreveport falls on the other side of this, posting a 29th straight month of over-the-year losses.

There may be a silver lining, however, as Economist Dr. Loren Scott predicted that Shreveport would add 1,300 jobs next year, and another 1,500 in 2019.  He cited expected job growth in commercial construction and natural gas as the leaders in this surge.
