And Now Another Shreveport Highway Is Under Construction
According to the latest from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, work just began yesterday on a busy highway in North Shreveport.

The statement from the DOTD announced the beginning of a $960,122 project to improve safety at the intersection of LA 173 (Hilry Huckaby III Avenue formerly Shreveport-Blanchard Highway) and Russell Road in Shreveport.
This work includes the installation of dedicated left turn lanes on LA 173 in both the northbound and southbound directions onto Russell Road.
Construction will require intermittent lane closures at this intersection, so motorists should be aware that crews and equipment will be on site.
The benefit of these turn lanes is to remove vehicles from the through travel lanes and locate them in a dedicated turning area, reducing the risk for rear-end crashes that have the potential to be severe. This intersection was chosen based on an analysis of the types of crashes that were occurring at this location.
These types of DOTD safety improvement projects are funded by money that is utilized specifically for projects that are geared toward safety enhancements, and do not use any other funding that is allocated for other roadway repair such as asphalt overlays.
This project is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2024, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
As with all construction projects, the DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
