LifeCycle 2012 is a community friendly bike tour for cyclists of every skill-level.

Multiple routes are offered with beautiful country scenery including Caddo and Desoto Parish and dipping into portions of East Texas.

Pre-ride breakfast snacks, great rest stops, and an after-ride party with fully furnished lunch, music, raffle, and sponsor booths will be provided. A carb-load dinner is also on tap for Friday night at Heart of Hope.

Our goal is to make this one of the premier bike tours of the region while raising funds for a wonderful cause.

The 14th annual Sunflower Trail and Festival will take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, June 2 in Gilliam, Louisiana. The event features art and entertainment for all ages including handmade items for sale by heritage crafters and artists, hands-on activities for children, art exhibits, a sunflower photography contest, and more. Food and refreshment vendors will also be available. Admission is free and open to the public.

Festival activities will take place behind the Red River Crossroads Museum in Gilliam, just off of Highway 3049. Highway 3049 (also known as Dixie/Shreveport Road) can be reached from Shreveport by heading north on Grimmett Drive until Grimmett Drive becomes Highway 3049.

Visitors to the festival are encouraged to explore the Sunflower Trail on their way to or from the festival. To drive the Sunflower Trail, turn right at Old Dixie Gin and Sentell Road and drive the loop around the levee. Sentell Road circles back to Highway 3049 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, just north of Dixie. This scenic drive features several sunflower varieties and wildflower fields. Sunflowers along the trail are expected to be in full bloom.

Saturday June 2 for a FREE, family friendly, fun in the sun festival on Cross Lake behind the American Legion Post 14. Enjoy the festivities from the shore, inside the air conditioned Legion or by boat on Cross Lake. Charity Poker Run by boat 1-3pm, live music by The Roscoes 2-6, Krewe of Atlas Decorated Boat Parade win cash prizes 4pm, Shreveport Sail & Power Squadron’s Decorated Hat Contest with prizes 5pm on the pier.

New this year is the Shreveport Sail & Power Squadron’s Photo Scavenger Hunt by Boat, win prizes.

Theme: Swampy People & Cross Lake “WILD”life, help us celebrate Louisiana’s bicentennial; enjoy a live alligator and wildlife exhibits provided by Walter B Jacobs Nature Park.

“Fit for Life” Field Day: Geared toward individuals with disabilities

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) Therapeutic Division announces its 2012 Therapeutic Recreation Adaptive “Fit for Life” Field Day, recently canceled because of weather, has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 10:00am – 1:00pm.  The events will be held atA.C.SteerePark, located at4002 Grover Street.

The field day events include:  Aerobic Warm-up with the talented Roshanda Spears, 50 meter dash, 100 meter, 200 meter dash, 400 meter relay, and softball throw. Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals will provide an Asthma demonstration and much more.  Awards will be given to all participants.

SPAR’s Therapeutic Recreation Program is geared toward individuals with disabilities, who are mentally, physically, and socially challenged, and those persons who are cognitively, visually and hearing impaired. All individuals ages 6 and up are invited to participate.
