The Purple One, His Royal Badness, or just Prince...whatever you called him, he was an icon. Yesterday we lost the legendary musician at the age of 57.

The outpouring of love and admiration stretched from Shreveport to the White House, and all around the world. Everyone began to recount stories of when they met Prince, or first saw him in concert, or purchased their first Prince album. It's amazing to see how many people were connected by Prince.

Even more interesting, seeing how many people were connected TO Prince.

Back in 2013, The Huffington Post went deep into the roots of Prince's family, discovering documents from Louisiana that help to trace his ancestry to slave-era Claiborne Parish. They found an 1880 Marriage document that tied his family to the area.

They also found that many of Prince's great-grandparents were born into slavery in towns like Homer, Cotton Valley, Arcadia, and Vienna. His family was spread across Bienville, Claiborne, Lincoln, and even Webster Parish. until the families took advantage of the Great Migration movement to take themselves to the Midwest, including cities like Chicago and Prince's hometown of Minneapolis.
