Who Is Named Bossier’s New Police Chief?
After a tumultuous week in the Bossier City Police Department, the mayor has named a new Chief of Police.
Bossier Mayor Tommy Chandler has selected Sergeant Daniel Haugen as his choice to lead the department. This appointment comes just a few days after the Police and Fire Civil Service Board decided to boot Chris Estess from the Chief's job. That decision came at the request of the Mayor who wanted a change at the top. The board heard allegations about Estess claiming morale was declining in the department under his leadership.
This appointment of Haugen is not interim. In a news release, Mayor Chandler says "Haugen will serve as the chief effective immediately as his score on the chief’s exam is still valid."
Haugen has served for 20 years in the Bossier Police Department. He's been assigned to various duties, including Patrol, the Motorcycle Division, and the SWAT team. He has currently been serving at the Training Center as the City’s Range Master and training coordinator.
Haugen is from Bossier City and graduated from Parkway in 1998. The Mayor's news release says "Haugen has been married to wife Molly, his high school sweetheart, for 19 years and they have two children. Molly Haugen also serves the city in the position of Comptroller and has been a key member of the City’s Finance Department since 2007."
What Does Mayor Chandler Say About this Appointment?
Haugen’s faith and his family are the cornerstones of his personal and professional life. His quiet confidence and no-nonsense approach make a great combination to lead our Bossier City Police Department forward. I did not want to make an interim or temporary appointment; our city needs a Chief right now and I am proud to select Daniel Haugen as my Chief of Police.
