Louisiana is on the right track when it comes to keeping our citizens safe!  A new report from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that although nationally the number of uninsured citizens is on the rise for the first time in a decade, Louisiana is at an all time high.

The uninsured rate for residents of the Sportsman's Paradise dropped from 8.4% in 2017 to a flat 8% in 2018.  According to NOLA.com, that .4% change represents nearly 19,000 more Louisianans that are now covered by health insurance.  Nationally, that number is 8.9%.

Even though Louisiana is among the 15 states in the U.S. that saw more insured citizens - virtually none of our neighbors are on that list!  Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Oklahoma and Florida all reported uninsured rates between 12% and 17.7%.

These numbers do not reflect the nearly 30,000 Louisiana residents kicked off of Medicaid in March of this year after a effort to combat intentional waste, fraud or abuse of the system was instituted.
