Louisiana Residents Have Until June 15 to File Federal Taxes
Louisiana residents get a break on filing taxes for 2020. You are getting a little extra time to file the paperwork. The Internal Revenue Service is extending the deadline for tax filing until June 15th. The IRS has also extended the national deadline to file until May 17th.
This tax break impacts residents of Louisiana who were hit by the winter storm in February which included the majority of the state. The entire state of Texas also gets the same designation because of the winter storm.
The IRS is swamped with dealing with the stimulus checks that have been going out this week. The agency is also dealing with millions of tax returns for last year. The IRS is also dealing with record numbers of claims for unemployment benefits and child tax credits.
This June 15 deadline also applies to quarterly estimated income tax payments due on April 15 and the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due on April 30.
Tax exempt organizations also get this same break to file returns if the region the region they are licensed in comes under this declaration.
You don't have to do anything by April 15 to get the extension. The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers located in the covered disaster area and applies filing and payment relief.
