According to Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder, somewhere in Louisiana, there is a dark, musty bank vault owned by the State that has nearly a billion dollars in it, but the money doesn't belong to Louisiana.

It's true! And Schroder is doing his best to get the money to its rightful owners.

The State Treasurer has just launched a new campaign called the Louisiana Cash Campaign and according to Schroder, it's Louisiana's latest effort to get this money and property back in the hands of its rightful owners.

In an interview with the Louisiana Radio Network, Schroder said, "So it’s like a constant thing, it’s like drinking water out of the Mississippi (River) one cup at a time and we got to keep promoting.”

This Property Belongs To More People Than You Might Think

Schroder says that one of every six Louisiana residents have unclaimed  property and now Louisiana has a new website to check for any of that property that might belong to you.

Lacashclaim.org has been set up and according to the site:

All you have to do is search your name and make a claim.

Schroder explains just how easy it is to determine if any of this property belongs to you, "You can go to our website, check for you and your family. Don’t forget to check your business and for your non-profit.  We gave $20,000 to a church today"

Besides Money, What Is Considered Unclaimed Property?

Wondering what might be considered "Unclaimed Property?" Schroder says unclaimed property consists of abandoned financial assets like checking and savings accounts, unpaid wages, life insurance payouts, and proceeds from safety deposit boxes.
