Kenny Chesney has created something special with his album Songs for the Saints, a project he undertook to honor his beloved second home, the Virgin Islands, which saw  considerable devastation f by Hurricane Irma. He is donating the proceeds of the album to his Love for Love City charity organization, which he founded in 2017 specifically to address his ongoing hurricane relief efforts, and one of the songs is specifically titled after the foundation.

Fans can hear Chesney perform a moving, raw version of "Love for Love City" above, as well as hear his thoughts about the song's origin.

Before performing the song, Chesney notes, "After Irma, I lived in such an anxiety state. I just felt like I needed to write," he explains. "I didn't realize that there was going to be a song cycle started, that ended up being Songs for the Saints. The first song I wrote was 'Songs for the Saints,' and the second song I wrote was basically a love letter to this island, and all the people on it that meant so much to me over the years."

Although the official recording includes reggae icon Ziggy Marley, Chesney performs in this particular video by himself, giving a stark acoustic rendition with the ocean as backdrop.

“This album means the world to me, because of what it’s about and what it means to the people of the Virgin Islands,” Chesney says. “A lot of who I am is because of the time I’ve spent down there, and how it’s shaped the man I’ve become. It’s how I see the world, and how my music has evolved.

"There’s a lot of life, and a lot of truth in these songs," he adds. "The more you listen, the more you’ll find. And I hope these songs, which really celebrate the spirit of the people, will keep inspiring us all no matter what we’re facing, and give back for years to come."
