Jason Aldean was tremendously shaken after experiencing the horrifying mass shootings in Las Vegas on Sunday (Oct. 1), and he has shared his fears for the world in a new social media post, saying, "This world is becoming the kind of place I am afraid to raise my children in."

Aldean was in the middle of his headlining set at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel in Vegas, killing 59 people and injuring more than 500 more during a rampage that lasted nearly five minutes. Paddock took his own life after the rampage, and no motive is known.

Aldean turned to Instagram to let fans know he was okay after the incident, saying, "Tonight has been beyond horrific," and he elaborated in an emotional post late Monday (Oct. 2), writing, "Over the last 24 hrs I have gone through lots of emotions. Scared, Anger, Heartache, Compassion and many others. I truly don't understand why a person would want to take the life of another. Something has changed in this country and in this world lately that is scary to see."

The superstar calls for unity and understanding despite whatever perceived political or racial differences.

"We are all humans and we are all Americans and its time to start acting like it and stand together as ONE! That is the only way we will ever get this country to be better than it has ever been, but we have a long way to go and we have to start now," he writes. "My heart aches for the victims and their families of this senseless act. I am so sorry for the hurt and pain everyone is feeling right now and there are no words i can say to to take that pain away. Just know u all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to come together and stop the hate!"

Aldean's wife, Brittany Aldean [Williams] accompanied him to the festival. She is pregnant with a baby boy that the couple expect in December. “We are safe … our angels were definitely watching over us tonight,” she writes. “No words for what happened … Just horrific. Praying for everyone.”

Aldean is scheduled to play shows in California on Oct. 6, 7 and 8. It is unclear whether those shows will move forward or be canceled.
