(KMDL-FM) The makers of the popular over-the-counter gas relief medication Gas-X, along with the Food and Drug Administration, have issued an urgent recall of that product over concerns that certain production runs of the medication could have been contaminated with industrial coolant.

The recall is nationwide, and there is a sense of urgency among those close to the recall action that consumers be made aware of the potential dangers posed by ingesting the potentially contaminated products. Currently, four lots of the Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels 125 mg, 120 count, and 72 count products are included in the recall advisory.

How Do You Know if You've Purchased a Contaminated Product?

Company officials issued the recall advisory after concerns that industrial coolant used by a machine in the manufacturing process showed signs of leaking. This leak was discovered during the packaging process. It is believed that anyone who may have ingested medication tainted with the leaked coolant would experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Again, we reiterate that neither the company nor the FDA has received any reports of illness or injury brought on by the source of this recall action.
