Two Former Independence Bowl Players Win Rings In Super Bowl LX
The Seattle Seahawks officially reclaimed their spot at the top of the NFL world on Sunday, with a clinical 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots. In a game defined by raw defensive force, rather than high-flying offense, Seattle’s "Dark Side" defense proved too much for the AFC champions at Levi’s Stadium.
Seattle held New England scoreless for the first three quarters, nearly securing the first shutout in the sixty-year history of the big game. Defensive star Devon Witherspoon, and the relentless Seahawks pass rush, combined for six sacks on the night. At times, Patriots QB Drake Maye looked like he was "seeing ghosts" and "hearing footsteps" simultaneously.
Ground Game and Kicking Set Historic Records
Running back Kenneth Walker III took home MVP honors after a dominant performance that saw him rack up 135 rushing yards. His effort was the highest rushing total in a Super Bowl in nearly three decades...providing the necessary spark for an offense that focused on ball security and clock management.
The kicking game also made its way into the record books, as Jason Myers converted five field goals...a new Super Bowl record. While Sam Darnold managed the game with 202 passing yards and a passing touchdown to AJ Barner. At the end of the day, it was Myers’ consistent leg that kept the scoreboard moving, while the defense suffocated every New England response .
Independence Bowl Alumni Secure Championship Rings
While the team celebration is in Seattle, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl has its own reasons to celebrate. Wide Receiver Jake Bobo and Running Back Cam Akers have officially added their names to the list of Indy Bowl alumni to become world champions.
Bobo saw action on both offense and special teams, while Akers contributed to the unit after being elevated to the active roster just before kickoff. Their success continues a long standing tradition of players graduating from the Shreveport's bowl game to the Super Bowl.
