Snakes Smell Like Cucumber? Shreveport Snake Expert Weighs In
I Once Was Told That If I Get Home And Smell Cucumbers, I Need to Get Out and Call For Help.
Several snake lovers and experts have come out to say that if you get home and catch a strong whiff of watermelon or cucumber, there is probably a snake in your home. My first thought is who can have that strong sense of smell? However, there may be times when you get home and the smell of your home changes, so you should probably be on high alert.
This is Something That I Will Always Talk About With People Who Grew Up in the South, Can You Smell Snakes?
Even after talking to several people, I feel like the smell of a snake is kind of hard to describe. One person claimed they smell like watermelons and almost everyone I have spoken to claims that the smell of a cucumber is an instant snake smell. After arguing with several people concerning snakes' having an odor I decided to call a local herpetologist, Steve, from Steve’s Snaketuary.
The mission at Steve's Snaketuary is to educate and help with the safe removal, relocation, and rehoming of snakes. Steve is a wealth of knowledge for the Ark-La-Tex.
Steve Bursted Our Snakes Smelling Like Cucumber Theory, Kind Of.
Steve mentioned that snakes do give off a smell, but we all smell different things. "Snakes can and do give off a musk and can smell. People smell differently, so it could smell like one thing to one person, and smell like something else to another person. To some people, snakes might smell like cucumbers. They do not smell like cucumbers to me though."
