With the electrical fire at Superior Bar and Grill last week in Shreveport, everyone in all of northwest Louisiana was worried about the fate of their trusty margarita machine. Thankfully, it made it through the fire intact and it's already making margs at Superior Steakhouse. However, you do know that you can make the cool, refreshing drink anytime you want at home, right... Even when it's NOT National Margarita Day like it is today, Thursday, February 22, 2024.

But first, what makes Superior Grill in Shreveport so special since everyone is so upset that it's temporarily closed for repairs?

For over four decades now, Superior Grill on Line Avenue has been the place to see and be seen in Shreveport. If you're single, it's the place to mingle. Many call it the perfect 'cougar' hunting ground.

With live music on the patio most nights and margaritas that are rumored to contain Everclear they're so stout, the atmosphere at Superior is perfect for parties. Since 1983, a visit to the restaurant for one of their margaritas has been a rite of passage for those coming of age. I'll never forget when my friends took me for my first Superior experience. Since then, I can't tell you how many birthdays and bachelorette parties I've experienced at Superior. It may have something to do with the fact that the food is excellent... and their margaritas, which Shreveport urban legends would have you believe are made with Everclear, they're so potent.

BTW, here's the latest from Superior on their ongoing repairs.

How can I make the perfect margarita at home for National Margarita Day?

If we're being honest, we don't have to have an excuse to drink margaritas, especially since we have a Mexican restaurant on every corner. However, I'm going to go ahead and tell you, I'm only talking about margaritas on the rocks here. Keep those frozen desserts to yourself! But, if you do need an excuse to drink margs, celebrating National Margarita Day is a good one. You're welcome ;)

The most important thing to remember when mixing up the perfect margarita is the 3-2-1 rule. That's three parts tequila to two parts triple sec to one part lime juice. Of course, if you use top-shelf liquors and mixers, your drinks will turn out much better. I suggest using brands like Patron and Cointreau.

BTW, did you know that 'margarita' means 'daisy' in Spanish? Moving on... you're going to need limes, Cointreau, lime juice, sea salt, and the tequila of your choice. Now remember the 3-2-1 rule. If you're making one drink, use three ounces of tequila, two ounces of Cointreau, and one ounce of lime juice. Shake the contents in a cocktail shaker and pour over ice in a glass rimmed with sea salt and a wedge of lime. It's that easy. I hope you enjoy it!
