New Study Says Louisiana is the Most Dangerous in the Country

Louisiana is home. Sure, there are some places I don't venture after dark, but is Louisiana really the most dangerous state in the entire country?
Is Louisiana really 2023's most dangerous state in the United States?
Short answer, yes. In a shocking new study, WalletHub.com ranks Louisiana as the least safe state in the country. According to WalletHub's team of researchers, they looked at 52 metrics regarding safety grouped into five categories. Those five categories are personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workforce safety, and emergency preparedness.
Here's how things turned out for us according to WalletHub.com:
Fatal Occupational Injuries per Total Workers
47. Louisiana - Is it because we have so many dangerous jobs in Louisiana like logging, oil and gas, law enforcement, etc?
Total Loss Amount from Climate Disasters per Capita
T-47. Louisiana - This makes sense because of the number of hurricanes we've had to deal with over the last few years.
Assaults per Capita
T-46. Louisiana - This is awful!
Law-Enforcement Employees per Capita
4. Louisiana - We rank well when it comes to law enforcement employees... So why can't we get any of them to come to Shreveport?
Fatalities per 100 Million Vehicle Miles of Travel
46. Louisiana - Is this due to distracted driving or perhaps folks driving while intoxicated or trying to dodge potholes like landmines?
Personal and Residential Safety
43. Louisiana - Sad, but I believe it.
Financial Safety
49. Louisiana - Unemployment may be down in Louisiana, but are those high-paying jobs with benefits?
Road Safety
34. Louisiana - See above.
Workplace Safety
42. Louisiana - See above.
Emergency Preparedness
49. Louisiana - I don't know what you really do in the face of hurricanes other than build levees and pump stations and then batten down the hatches and pray.
Here's a closer look at the numbers. Sadly, Arkansas to our north didn't fare much better and I was surprised by several of the stats regarding Texas. Check it out.
